What is the World's Fastest Airplane

The world's fastest airplane in the world is the SR-71 BlackBird. The SR-71 was designed by US in the height of the cold-war to carry out reconnaissance missions. The SR-71 can reach speeds in excess of Mach - 3 that is three times the speed of sound. The SR-71 with its remarkable design and superior materials to combat aerodynamic heating at very high velocities has made a valuable contribution to high-speed airplane design. The SR-71 commonly known as the Black-Bird airplane remained a classified project of the US Airforce. The SR-71 has two massive turbojet engines which propel it to these extremely high velocities. The SR-71 is also unique in its use of titanium material in its airplane structure. At present, no other airplane has beaten the speed record of the SR-71 Blackbird. The Blackbird is not currently in service and has been retired by the Airforce. As of 2000, new reports of a new aircraft are being rumored that could fly at hypersonic speeds of Mach 5. The project has been named "Aurora" and is presently being classified by the USAF.
