Resistor Color Coding for 5-Band Resistors

In this article, we would look into resistance color coding scheme more specifically the 5-Band color code to represent the resistance value.

To find out the value of the resistance using the color code on the resistors. Select the colors on the individual colors on each band.

The 4-Bands on the Resistor which are color-coded are color-coded in the following colors.

  • Black

  • Brown

  • Red

  • Orange

  • Yellow

  • Green

  • Blue

  • Violet

  • Grey

  • White

The 1st three rings (bands) on the resistance are called the 1st ,2nd and 3rd bands. The fourth band on the resistor is called as the multiplier and the 5th and last band is known as Tolerance.

If there is no band so this means that there is zero tolerance. If there is tolerance it is represented by colors,

Gold

Silver

If the tolerance of resistor is 5% the color code on band is Gold

If the tolerance of resistor is 10% the color code on band is silver

Performing the calculation gives us the color-code of the Resistor, the Resistance Value and the Tolerance using the 5-Band color coding scheme.
