How to Calculate the Period of Revolution of the Planet
The period of revolution of the planet is calculated using the Kepler's third law of planetary motion which states that,
The periods of any two satellites about the same planet are related to their semi-major axes. The formula for Kepler's third law is,
(t1^2) = (a1^2) -------- --------- (t2^2) (a2^2)
where, t1 = the period of revolution of the planet (e.g earth about sun) which is known t2 = the period of revolution of the planet you wish to find. a1 = semi-major axis of the planet (e.g earth) a2 = semi-major axis of the planet you wish to find the period of revolution.
So, rewriting the formula to find the period of revolution of the planet gives,
t2 = t1 * ((a2/a1)^ (3/2))
which computes the period of revolution of the planet.
