How to Calculate the Drag Force on Plate In order to calculate the drag force on a plate we consider the flow of air over a small flat plate at sea-level conditions and assume laminar flow / turbulent flow |

In order to calculate the boundary layer thickness, we require,
The Length in flow direction in meters (m) The width in meters (m) The Flow velocity in meters/sec
Performing the calculation gives us the value of Reynolds number and the value of the boundary layer thickness. The boundary layer thickness is denoted by delta.
The Cf coefficient value is then computed. The dynamic pressure is also found and it has units of N/m^2 and the Drag force on the Plate is finally calculated. where, Df = qSCf, where Cf is the drag force coefficient. |
