How to calculate the pressure measured by the Pitot Tube

Here in this article we show how to calculate the pressure measured by the pitot tube. Note, that the Velocity should be high enough so that it reaches a Mach no. of Greater than 1.

In order to calculate, Input the following values,

The velocity in miles per hour

The ambient Pressure in lb/ft^2

The Ambient Temperature in degree Rankine

Performing the calculation gives the speed of sound and the mach number.

If the flow is supersonic then the shockwave appears in front of the pitot tube and hence the isentropic flow equation cannot be used. So, the P02 value is computed using another method.
